I've had the pleasure of trying out the TaylorMade Qi irons, and I must say, they live up to the hype. Right from the first swing, I noticed how forgiving they are. Even on off-center hits, the ball seemed to find its way toward the target, which is a massive confidence booster. These irons are built to help golfers hit straighter, more consistent shots, and from my experience, they deliver on that promise. Here's the experience of a real mid handicapper with the Qi irons.

TaylorMade Qi irons

Good looking and very forgiving irons

Pros

  • Massive sweet spot to hit it pure every time
  • Easy to hit the ball high in the air
  • Mishits still fly a solid distance
  • Low stress clubs you can trust on every shot

Cons

  • Face is bouncy for chip and runs
  • Lofts are very strong

Performance & Numbers

One of the standout features for me was the distance—these irons are long. The 7-iron loft is 28°, and in testing, the carry distance was around 198 yards. That’s impressive for a game-improvement iron. The launch angle averaged 15.6°, with a backspin rate of 5065 RPM, a peak height of 33 yards, and a descent angle of 44.2°. These numbers show that while the irons are strong-lofted, they still provide good stopping power on the greens.

Forgiveness is where the Qi irons really shine. The carry distance drop-off was just 12 yards, and the shot area consistency covered 267.6 square yards—meaning even mishits stayed relatively close to the intended target. This aligns with TaylorMade’s claim that these irons help reduce the common right miss (for right-handed golfers). I definitely noticed a subtle draw bias that kept my shots straighter and minimized my occasional fade.

Feel & Aesthetics

Aesthetically, TaylorMade has done a commendable job. The Qi irons have a sleek design that doesn’t scream “game-improvement,” which I appreciate. At address, they provide a confident look without appearing overly bulky. The feel at impact is solid, though there’s a bit of a clicky sound—nothing too distracting, but worth noting.

For golfers who struggle with getting enough height and speed, TaylorMade also offers the Qi HL (High Launch) irons. These have lofts about 2° higher and are up to 26 grams lighter, making them ideal for players who need a bit of extra help with launch and forgiveness.

Final Thoughts

Overall, the TaylorMade Qi irons are a fantastic option for golfers looking to improve their game. They offer impressive distance, excellent forgiveness, and a design that looks great at address. If you’re in the market for new forgiving irons that can help straighten out your shots and add some yards, these are worth considering.
